Chavies Elementary is building health, nutrition, and wellness information into their school community. Students will use math, art, and technology to learn about and design physical fitness informational pieces that can be used by families and the community, as well as offering Zumba and other wellness opportunities during school and in the evenings. Teachers hope this initiative will generate an interest in overall health and wellness in their students, families, and community.
Roy G. Eversole Middle School is creating an outdoor learning space where teachers and students alike can improve their health through physical activity and hands-on learning in a multi-sensory outdoor environment. The long-term goal of this project is to increase the quantity, quality, and benefit of outdoor learning while increasing an interest in being outside and physically active.
Pathfinders Kids of Perry County wants to show that nontraditional forms of fitness activities, partnered with traditional instruction in science, humanities, and math will encourage children to make healthier choices, improve their lifelong learning skills, and appreciate our beautiful natural resources. Incorporating classroom learning with hiking and nature Pathfinders Kids and Viper Elementary project leaders hope to encourage students at Viper and their families to spend more time together outdoors.
